Hand drawn illustrations
Illustrations are important for the graphic design of all kinds of messages or expressions. An illustrator brings professional competence and creativity.

Based on the idea that a message will be more effective with an illustration Anneke makes illustrations for a variety of applications. Invitations are more fun with that, texts do draw attention from the audience (possible future buyer) earlier or the illustrations contributes as a visual explanation to the understanding of texts or make sure readers do remember texts better. Everything is possible in a drawing (different from photography) and it has the ability to make the experience more nuanced or more intense.

Anneke's illustrations are hand drawn and -painted with amongst others water colour (aquarelle), acrylic, graphite, (coloured) pencil, Indian ink, ecoline, pastel chalk and/or charcoal and may be post-processed digitally if necessary. They can be made for

  • websites, social media and other online content;
  • printed matters, like invitations, greeting cards, posters, program booklets, business cards;
  • editorial purposes and cartoons in newspapers and magazines;
  • dissertations, educational resources for schools, course material;
  • book covers, stories and children's books;
  • non-fiction like reference works;
  • PowerPoint-presentations;
  • city marketing;
  • advertising;
  • and more

Every application or purpose deserves a suitable approach, whether or not with an extensive preliminary study of the matter and sketches of the object to be drawn. Creaviva thinks along with you in a creative way. The hand drawing itself, other artists, travelling, acquiring knowlegde and new experiences feed the creative mind. Knowlegde gained in legal professions add value in legal design and a previous profession as a registered veterinary nurse is very useful in animal drawing, animal painting and agricultural and veterinary matters.

It is common practice to use a written briefing (description of the assignment) mentioning the application of the illustration, the size, the technique, the style, possible deadline and information about delivery. The technique, style and deadline should be balanced. License agreements will be drafted separately.

Freelance- or interim services as an illustrator shall be provided from entrepreneurship with a full business operation, conditions and rates included. Social fees, taxes, insurances and educational costs will be paid by Creaviva and holidays, vacation pay, payments during sick-leave and transition payments are not an issue. Moreover, upon the termination of the colloboration you do not have employment obligations, such as a transition payment or contract change (ECLI:NL:HR:2020:283).

Please feel free to contact Creaviva to see which ideas and options will tumble from the paint brush for your purpose.

Wall paintings
Besides on paper or canvas, a painting can also be made on the wall. Give your home, office, catering facility, care institution or medical practice room a personal theme, company logo or handlettered functional indicator with a wall painting!

Consider, for example:

  • nursery / children's room;
  • living room;
  • reception room / meeting room;
  • reception / waiting area;
  • children's play corner / children's department;
  • visitors' bezoekerstoilet;
  • handlettered orientation indications (such as floor numbers);
  • and more

Besides a decoration, a wall painting will aslo be a great marketing tool for business owners. It gives experience to your brand, it distinguish you from others and looks good on social media.

A wall painting will be made with acrylic paint. The colors will be determined in consultation with you, but you can purchase them yourself in a store for artists' supplies if you wish. This type of paint will be diluted with water when applied. It is a quick-drying paint, also child-friendly and safe to use. So you do not need to worry about bad smells or harmful vapors in the room.

A wall painting will be best on an even surface (smooth stucco), with ordinary, light colored wall paint. Images with many details are not suitable for a structured surface (for example fiberglass wallpaper, coarse stucco, granol or spachtelputz). On rough surfaces planes for example, are possible, but the application of the painting will take more time.

A draft-image will be made on paper or as a digital file before starting painting. The final design will (if possible) be projected on the wall, so you can indicate where and on what size you prefer the image. The projection also gives you an idea of how it will look like. Painting is a creative process that can bring new ideas while working on it. While making the wall painting, colors or elements can be added (in consultation). That makes every wall painting even more unique!

The time needed to make a wall painting depends, among other things, on the image (size, detail) and the surface. For example, a large, simple image can be less work than a small, detailed image. A small painting will be finished in one day, but a larger one could take two or more days.

The work can be scheduled in consultation, possibly in phases, as much as possible based on full working days.

The price of a wall painting depends on factors such as your own design or existing image (for example, a birth announcement card), the detail and size of the image and the type of surface. The basic rate is € 78,40/hour VAT included. Besides material costs, travel costs € 0,30 / km from Spijkenisse (3201) and parking fees will be charged.

Hand lettering
Hand lettering is the art of hand-drawing or -painting letters. In de late Nineties Anneke handlettered a logo as an identity for her former 'drawing business'. Today hand lettering is very popular. Maybe it's the charm of imperfect manual work what people appreciate so much right in the digital ages.

Hand lettering has the ability to give experiental value to written words, from a single word to a quote or letter artwork. Whether it is something personal, something funny or something unexpected, handlettered words are always unique. If appropriated, hand lettering can be a good marketing tool for business owners and give experience and recognition to their brand. Hand lettering is applicable on clothing, on menu boards and -cards in restaurants and bars, in wall paintings and on windows, on all kinds of printed matters, on crockery and much more.

Hand lettering is based on drawing skills. Often the preparation of a project goes along with lots of sketching. The form of art could be carried out in different styles and typeface, from different types of fonts, serifed or sanserif to script-writing. Mixed usage of different typefaces and sizes is possible. Often the upstrokes are thin (like less pressure on the pen) and the downstrokes thick (like more pressure on the pen), just like calligraphy. But calligraphy is not drawing, but works from skills concerning the calligraphy pen or the writing of letters.

A word becomes an artistic eye-catcher by using e.g. different drawing materials, color variation, texture or pattern, shadow lines,  illustrations, doodles and decorative elements e.g. can be used. The opportunities of hand lettering are endless.

Could your written words use more impression to leave behind? Could the brand experience of your company be stronger? Feel free to contact to discuss your wishes.
